Boston is the state capital of Massachusetts. The city is rich in
history and boasts the birth of the American Revolution. From the
North End to Bay Village, Back Bay to the South End, Boston is very
much a cosmopolitan city steeped in culture. It has a population
of about 600,000 people with immigrants from every corner of the
globe who have helped re-shape the city into one of the most beautiful
in the country. One of Boston’s many nicknames is “The
Hub”, which clearly illustrates its importance within the
most powerful country on the planet.
It is a relatively easy city to explore with ancient redbrick pathways
twisting by the fascinating glass towers and houses of federalists.
Boston is famous for many things including the Red Sox and Patriots
baseball and football teams. Although politics are very much a way
of life for its inhabitants, sport is also taken very seriously.
Across the river are Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute
of Technology. Every September over 250,000 students descend on
Boston and Cambridge. Between the two, there are over 60 universities
and colleges which helps provide a unique atmosphere. It is with
their help that Boston has become one of the wealthiest and best-educated
cities in America, housing some of most advanced scientists and
doctors.
Boston’s rich culture is easy to see with such wonderful
buildings as the Museum of Fine Arts, Harvard University’s
Fogg Art Museum and the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum. There is
also the Boston Symphony Orchestra and many Broadway shows in the
Theatre District.
The outdoors is very much part of locals everyday life, especially
during the fine weather when the banks of the Charles River are
teeming with fitness fanatics, skaters, Frisbee players and of course
sun worshipers. During the winter months, many people hit the slopes
for skiing, snow boarding and ice skating. Whether you’re
looking for excitement, relaxation, sport, politics or a vibrant
city rich in culture, then Boston is pretty much guaranteed to come
up trumps.
